1. The Long Winters “It’s a Departure” that I found after about 20 seconds of Googling. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for the last few days because goddammit it’s just really fucking fun.

Before Merlin and John started their hilarious internet show, I had never heard of The Long Winters (I was a total jazz band geek in high school and college - a new record to me was some post-modern Coltrane space-cadet saxophone noodling and honking).

After about episode 3 or so I bought When I Pretend to Fall and listend to the shit out of it, because, well, why the hell not? Very soon after I bought The Worst You Can Do Is Harm, and shortly thereafter Putting The Days to Bed. I can confidently say that I’m a total fan. I don’t want to say “aww, man, I wish I had started listening to these guys when their albums first came out” because that implies regret and some sort of sadness for something that can never be. So fuck that. If you aren’t already a Long Winters fan, you should be.

John, if you’re ever short a bass player, I learn pretty quickly by ear and can actually read music and chord charts.
